Friends of Data, every September 26, we commemorate National Statistics Day (HSN). Carrying the theme “Quality Statistics for Resilient Indonesia, Indonesia Grows” which illustrates the importance of quality statistical data to encourage Indonesia to become a strong and growing nation.
The theme of HSN 2021 also emphasizes that quality data is data that is able to respond to the times, one of which is the use of big data.
The big data development initiative at BPS has been carried out since 2015 using various existing big data sources, such as Mobile Positioning Data (MPD) to support the estimation of the number of foreign tourists, especially in border areas.
The use of MPD continues to be developed for event analysis such as the 2018 Asian Games, monitoring the mobility of commuters, the movement of Archipelago Tourists, National Tourists (Tourism Statistics), and supporting the preparation of the Metropolitan Statistical Area delineation. Satellite imagery is used in the Area Sampling Framework activity to obtain accurate agricultural data.
Other big data sources and Artificial Intelligence initiatives are also implemented as part of the acceleration of statistical business processes at BPS.
The presence of big data is expected to provide faster, cheaper, and more detailed data to complement official statistics providing more detailed and in-depth information based on census and survey results. Let's together create Quality Statistics for Strong Indonesia, Growing Indonesia. Happy National Statistics Day 2021.
