Abstract
In July 2020 Denpasar City recorded a deflation as deep as -0.46 percent as indicated by the decrease in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018 = 100) from 104.40 in June 2020 to 103.92 in July 2020. Meanwhile, the inflation rate in the year running July 2020 was recorded as high as 0.26 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (July 2020 against July 2019 or YoY) was recorded as high as 0.92 percent.
Of the eleven expenditure groups, five expenditure groups recorded deflation, namely group IV (equipment, equipment, and household routine maintenance) as deep as -1.77 percent; group I (food, drink, and tobacco) as deep as -1.29 percent; group VI (transportation) as deep as -1.05 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) as deep as -0.61 percent; and group III (housing, water, electricity and household fuel) as deep as -0.03 percent. Meanwhile, four expenditure groups recorded inflation: group IX (education) as high as 1.42 percent; group VIII (recreation, sports, and culture) as high as 0.41 percent; group VII (information, communication, and financial services) as high as 0.08 percent; and group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 0.05 percent. Two expenditure groups recorded no change in index or stagnant, namely group V (health) and group X (food and beverage / restaurant supply).
Commodities recorded contributing to or contributing to deflation in July 2020 include, among others, air freight rates, canang sari, shallots, bottled water, purebred chicken, cayenne peppers, oranges, red chilies, liquid bath soap, and mustard greens.
From 90 CPI cities, there were 61 cities experiencing deflation and 29 cities experiencing inflation. The deepest deflation was recorded in Manokwari City by -1.09 percent while the shallow deflation was recorded in Gunung Sitoli City, Bogor City, Bekasi City, Luwuk City and Bulukumba City each by -0.01 percent each. Meanwhile, the highest inflation was recorded in Timika City as high as 1.45 percent while the lowest inflation was recorded in Jember City and Banyuwangi City each as high as 0.01 percent. If sorted from the deepest deflation, then Denpasar ranks 8th out of 61 cities experiencing deflation.
