Abstract
In January 2021 the City of Denpasar was recorded to experience inflation as high as 0.77 percent, which is the same as the calendar year inflation rate (year to date / ytd) as indicated by an increase in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018 = 100) from 104.22 in December 2020 to 105.02 in January 2021. Meanwhile, the year-on-year inflation rate (January 2021 against January 2020 or YoY) was as high as 0.76 percent.
Of the eleven expenditure groups, seven expenditure groups recorded inflation, namely group I (food, beverages and tobacco) as high as 2.59 percent; group IV (equipment, tools, and household routine maintenance) as high as 1.40 percent; group VI (transportation) as high as 0.70 percent; group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 0.20 percent; group V (health) as high as 0.05 percent; group X (provision of food and beverages / restaurants) as high as 0.04 percent; and group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) as high as 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, two groups of expenditure recorded deflation, namely group VIII (recreation, sports and culture) at 2.09 percent and group II (clothing and footwear) at 0.28 percent. Two other expenditure groups recorded that the index did not change or were stagnant, namely group VII (information, communication and financial services) and group IX (education).
Commodities recorded as contributing to or contributing to inflation in January 2021 include, among others, cayenne pepper, mango, air freight rates, purebred chicken, canang sari, pork, tempeh, red chilies, raw tofu, and tomatoes.
Of the 90 CPI cities, 75 cities experienced inflation and 15 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Mamuju City (West Sulawesi) as high as 1.43 percent, while the lowest inflation was recorded in Kota Balikpapan (East Kalimantan) and Ambon City (Maluku) as high as 0.02 percent respectively. Meanwhile, the deepest deflation was recorded in Bau-Bau City (Southeast Sulawesi) at 0.92 percent, while the shallowest deflation was recorded in Pontianak (West Kalimantan) as deep as 0.01 percent. If sorted from highest inflation, Denpasar City ranks 12th out of 75 cities experiencing inflation.
